Magic in Manhattan

Friday, February 26, 2010

The past few days I spent in Manhattan. There is something about the city that is just magical. I brought S to the city, it was her first time (yes.. I brought her; as if I am such an experienced city girl). We got there in the afternoon, and after checking in to our chic and quaint hotel we got all ready to go to In The Heights (starring Corbin Bleu from HSM) on broadway. We stayed in the Upper West Side and decided to just walk from our hotel down to Times Square. Best idea ever. It's really not a terrible walk, and you see so much more than if you ride in the creepy subways.

We walked past the Manhattan Temple on 66th

We saw Columbus Circle and Trump Tower on 59th

Then, after a few short blocks we saw it.

The lights and glory that is Times Square.

Magic.

We walked around a bit, having a few hours to kill before our show.

Went to AE, M&M World, and to dinner with a view of the city.

Then we walked over to Richard Rogers Theater to get our tickets to the show.

We got our tickets and still had an hour to kill before it started, so we just decided to stick around the theater and take pictures.

While we were photo-shoot crazy we noticed this gentleman outside the doors to get into the theater. We started talking with him and he would go talk to other people then come back to us. We had a lovely conversation about where we were from, how long we were there, etc. We discovered he worked at the theater (yet we don't know his title, he never told us...we guessed producer)

He looked at our tickets before we went up to our seats and simply told us it was nice to meet us and to take care.

We climbed what seemed like 9 flights of stairs up to our seats on the very tip top of the theater.

3 minutes before the show started we saw our friend again. He came up to our seats and told us when he came back to follow him..

3 Songs into the show we saw him again and went down the stairs to the Mezzanine entrance to meet him. He then walked us to his seats to enjoy the rest of the show.

Box Seats RIGHT next to the stage.

We were so close we could see the microphones on the actors. It was incredible.

We hugged him and thanked him. He then gave us his number and email and told us to call him any time we were in New York and he would hook us up with other shows. Go backstage, have dinner with different casts, get really good seats, the works.

like I said.

Magic.

That was just day 1.

Pictures and day 2 to come later.

In 3 days I will be seeing this:

Funny things happen at my place of employment ALL the time. I was in a music phase... Now I'm in a hilarious-things-always-happen-and-are-too-good-not-to-share phase. Phew!

I get to work the other day and see this:

'nuff said.

see the resemblance?

So

at work (everything good always happens at work)

this really old lady comes up to the counter and asks to speak with me

I go up and smile and ask how I can help her

She asked me if I was related to her friend *Sally

I said, No...

She said.. Well you two look so alike with your dark eyes! I can really see the resemblance!

Me: Oh! *awkward forced polite laugh* See you later!

1. Not only do I have blue eyes, but do I really look like an old retired woman?

Thank you, unknown old lady, thank you.
*note* I understand I look hideous and angry in this photo (I was dressed up as Belletrix LeStrange for the HP midnight showing) but this is a good pic to show you how light my eyes really are! It was just funny!

just can't make this stuff up

at work yesterday, this awkward boy comes in asking to talk to one of my fellow coworkers, who is also awkward.

she goes to meet him outside and comes back in with this GIANT valentines day card ( I should have taken a picture. it was THAT good. )

It said something along the lines of:
"You are my lover
You are my friend
A Love like ours
Will never end.
Dear *Mallory,
You are the most beautiful girl I have ever met. I can't wait to spend time with you. Love, *Ron
me: so Mallory, is he your boyfriend?
Mal: I think so.
me: Cute... How long have you guys been dating?
Mal: Oh.... .... .... About three days.
me: ....interesting...
And how long have you known him?...
Mal: About two days.
me: (Completely teasing) oooh. so is he a good kisser? (then regretting asking because I knew she would answer)
Mal: I didn't want to say anything... but he kissed me twelve times.
me: huh.... neat!

And I walked away.

priceless. and hilarious.

I know, I know.. Erin! Come up with something new.

Alright, I realize that the last like, 14 posts have been about some song I've been thinking about or lyrics, etc. But seriously I didn't realize how much I love music until lately. I breathe music. On a church/US history tour I got the "singing sister" award. I'm no singer by any means, but I have a song for every situation. It's a little crazy.
Anyway
With Valentines Day coming up in 2 days, I feel this post is appropriate. But I promise I will tell some good juicy stories as soon as this music phase of my life fades away!
with that said
I love the following songs:
Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
and I wonder if I ever crossed your mind, for me it happens all the time.
Sing Along - Sixteen Cities
I love the way the stars shine for you, and every single mountain bows down. I love the way the universe is singing your song, so I'll try to sing along
Silver Lining - Rilo Kiley
hooray, hooray I'm your silver lining.
Fallin' For You - Colbie Caillat
no I just can't take it, my heart is racing.
Fearless - Taylor Swift
you pull me in and I'm a little more brave.. It's the first kiss, it's flawless, really something.
Only You Can Love Me This Way - Keith Urban
and when I say it's forever, you understand that you're always in my heart, you're always on my mind.
I'm a hopeless romantic, what can I say?
enjoy. :)

blog stalking.

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Alright.

Confession.

Sometimes I'm a blog stalker.. No not in a creepy stalker way but I like to find blogs I've never read before. I read these blogs and I become attatched to these people like we're bffs. Natalie, Nie and Jalene are my favorites to read if any of all y'all are interested.

I've never met these ladies but I feel like I've known them for ages because I read their blogs! I know, totally nerdy and stalkerish!

But please watch this video. Found on Jalene's blog. I thought it was so adorable I had to share. I want this someday, please and thank you.

that is all.

.embarrassing moment.

Once upon a time I made friends with this boy named *Ryan. And once upon a time I had a 7 peaks pass and went every day of the summer. Well, while texting new friend Ryan one day we decided it would be fun to go to 7 peaks after we both got off work. He worked down in p-town so I was going to pick up his swimming gear from his sister and then head down there and meet at the water park.
I get to his house... no answer when I rang the doorbell. So I called Ryan and told him we would just go another day, no big deal...
Then he gives me his garage code, and tells me I needed to go get his stuff... When I refused he sternly replied, "stop being a pansy and just do it." (or something to that effect) So.. feeling really awkward I did it anyway.. Mind you, I'd never been in his house before. Awkward.
So while on the phone with Ryan he walked me through it all..
sandals. check.
swimsuit. check
towel. check
boxer-briefs. (I'm sorry. what?!..) check.
So after being really embarrassed getting his stuff, we met up at 7peaks and had a great time.. I ended up grabbing the wrong swimsuit so he didnt end up needing the b-b's.
fast forward a day or two...
I was giving a ride to a few of Ryan's friends to walmart. Ryan's friend *Mike just randomly yells ERIN... what are these?!... Pointing to
you guessed it.
boxer briefs.
I was mortified and could not stop laughing
After catching my breath I explained what had happened, then the friends could not stop laughing either.
It was one of my most embarrassing moments. I turned bright red. Called Ryan and told him to take his crap out of my car. He wasn't allowed to bring things in the car after that :)

I like pics like this

My big glasses.
My smirk
Long hair (thanks to playing with some hair extensions)
and the Black and White aspect is so fun..
It's also kinda abstract which makes it fun to look at.. I don't know.. I'm an art nerd what can I say?
Also, Today at work we were in kind of a silly mood and slightly bored. So while being productive we decided it would be fun to make a list of
Inappropriate Songs To Have For Your Wedding Video:
(here are some we came up with for your enjoyment)
Face Down - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
I Kissed A Girl - Katy Perry
I Just Haven't Met You Yet - Michael Buble'
Clumsy - Fergie
Picture - Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow
My Humps - Black Eyed Peas
I'm N Luv - T-Pain
What Goes Around - Justin Timberlake
Fun times!
I'm really into music lately...

especially good lyrics....

*Jus' A Little Bit Mo' -Shake Your Peace

Chorus:

My baby calls me cabbage
My baby calls me sweetie gooseberry pie
My baby calls me lovey honey chunks and mo
MY baby calls me sexy sexy sexy out of control

Nothin' like good lyrics..

Google Where Did Valentines Day Come From
I would copy/paste what I found on here... But unfortunately my computer is having mass chaotic issues and it will not allow me to do such a thing.
In short, Valentines day originates from this ancient roman man, St. Valentine (go figure) who was martyred for not giving up his Christianity. (go team) He died on February 14. He had written a letter to the jailer's daughter the day he died and signed it "from your Valentine".
Over the years 2/14 became a day of exchanging love messages. In the 1800's, the first commercial valentine cards were introduced..
I think they should have told me the story of Valentines day a LOT sooner. I appreciate it so much better now..
In my mind, valentines day was a day for:
a bunch of girls at school getting roses. Except me, of course.
cheesey stuffed animals holding hearts that say "i wuv you" and ridiculousness like that.
heart shaped boxes of chocolate I was not recieving.
I'm sure you feel my pain in the many single years of Valentines day coming and going.
I learned to hate February 14 and all that came along with it. I still don't look forward to Happy Heart Day, even though as I've gotten older I do enjoy making cards and writing my own versions of love notes to my friends, how much I appreciate them in my life and what have you.
I really hope I don't get anything cheesey. There is nothing worse than a cheesey Valentines day gift.
If you are contemplating what to get me this year and happen to be reading this post, here are some ideas:
a hair accessory or two
lip gloss. simple. always necessary.
new shoes
perfume. mm.
even flowers. Flowers are never cheesey and always make my day.
Alright. I'm going to try to have a positive outlook this year.
I may even wear a color other than black!
