have you been to mormon.org?

it is really cool.

go check it out.

And while you're there, members of the LDS church can create a profile!
it doesn't take very long.  it's a great way to share your testimony in a non-threatening way for anyone who is interested to read.

today

Saturday, February 26, 2011

i created an artist profile on lds.org

i'm planning on entering this contest.

i'm really nervous.  the last time i entered any sort of art contest it was in elementary school.

but this will be really good for me.  even if it doesn't go anywhere, i'm excited to be creating something that reflects my beliefs.

the theme is

make known His wonderful works

beautiful.

can't wait to get started. i've already started brainstorming.

you should do the contest too!  Seriously.  pros and amateurs alike are welcome to join.  which is why i'm even doing it.

good luck!  and if you decide to do it--i'm interested in what you do!  i'll be keeping you all posted.

this semester thus far

i am loving my classes

i feel like i have learned a ton in the short months i've been back

here are a couple preview pics of some artwork.

for this piece we had to feel where the color/lines should go. kinda bizarre.

this one was a distilled landscape drawing.  it's times square in the pouring rain

i have a wonderful professor who pushes me to try new things, and i'm discovering lots about myself and the way i draw/paint/doodle.

i'm loving it.

who, me?

be yourself! {everyone else is already taken.}-not sure who made this statement. but i love it.

yes, that's caution tape in the background. and yes, i have squinty eyes and a scrunchy nose when i smile.

photo taken by jalene. she's incredible.

seriously though.

sometimes i find myself

a. comparing myself to other girls. (photoshopped or not)
b. saying {thinking} ridiculous statements about myself (see a.)
c. wishing i was more like insert friend's name here. (I have some incredible, beautiful, thoughtful, crafty, creative, awesome friends.)

catch my drift?

but i have to remember that i'm me and i'm not going to be anyone else any time soon
(or ever)

i can, however, try to be the best me.

and i do try.  every day.

Nelson Mandela is one smart guy.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?Actually who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to manifest the Glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some; it’s in all, everyone.

And as we let our own light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

so.

there you have it.
i guess i'm stuck being me.
and i like it.

read my other reminders on this subject here and here.

why fashionista?

Sunday, February 20, 2011

fashionista {in training}

why is your blog title fashionista in training?  what does that even mean?

so thanks to dictionary.com

fash·ion·is·ta  /ËŒfæʃəˈnistÉ™/
[fash-uh-nee-stuh]
–noun

a very fashionable person, especially one who works in the fashion industry

when i started this blog, i was in fashion school and planned on becoming a fashion designer and being just that--a fashionista.  and since i was going to school for it, fashionista in training just kind of fit.

but, naturally, life happens and things change.

i'm finished with fashion

and now i'm pursuing fine art

but now you know where the title name came from.

and it's staying because I like it.

dear spring time,

Sunday, February 20, 2011

I know I said I was going to start my spring cleaning today hoping for an early arrival, but I just didn't get around to it today!

I'm sorry.

Hopefully you won't think that I don't want you to come.  Because, trust me, I do.

You don't know how miserable it is to drive to school in the morning and shiver most of the way there because I'm always running late and don't have time to start my car and let it warm up before hitting the road.

I can't wait for flowers, either.  When you come, flowers bloom left and right.  And, well, flowers just make me happy!

I think you should come sooner than later because I am ready for the new spring trends!  I can't wait for pale shades and floral prints.

Springtime also brings my birthday.  And birthdays are fun for everyone.

I just wanted you to know how I'm really looking forward to your arrival and how much I've missed you (especially these last few blustery blizzardy days).

Much love, Erin.

some yummy stuff

Sunday, February 13, 2011

so.

a long long time ago

i said i'd be trying out a new recipe from RealSimple every day for 30 days.

well, that was really ambitious of me, wasn't it?
it turned into 1 or 2 a week.

I discovered a few things.

1.  I can follow a recipe.  Hooray.  My mommy taught me good.
2.  RealSimple really is really simple to follow.  and so yummy.
3.  I really love pasta, apparently.  (it's easy)

as my friend Junie B says--Wowie Wow Wow!

Here are some of my favorites we Spencers tried out!

pasta with peppers and mozzarella
**I substituted the arugula for spinach and it was still delightful.

broccoli alfredo
This recipe had my family going back for 2nds and 3rds for dad!  He loved it.  We loved it!

spinach pasta with asparagus pesto

this one was my personal fave.  it smelled SO good making and it was delightful.  My food even turned out looking like the RealSimple picture!

what are some of your favorite recipes?

what can Wii do for you?

Sunday, February 13, 2011

my sister will kill me for posting this.

but it is just too funny to not share with the blogging world.

When you play nintendo I hope you get really into it like sister does.  She's playing Donkey Kong on the Wii.  It's probably more entertaining to watch her play than to actually play myself.

Love you sis!

why be healthy?

Sunday, February 13, 2011

I want to be healthy.

Especially after getting the fatbooth app on my ipod.

If this doesn't scare someone into being healthy, I don't know what will.  I do not want to look like this any time soon.

Enjoy these funny pictures.  Hopefully this is the only time you see me looking like this.  Ha.

this is why I'm not eating chocolate on Valentine's day.

Ha.  too funny!  Sorry Sar.

little sis

Dear friend Gsquared

the Utah Jazz

Saturday, February 12, 2011

okay.

I just need to document about my favorite team, the Utah Jazz.

And I say favorite team.  Mostly because I don't have another favorite team.
[It may be news to you, but I don't watch football/baseball/hockey.. I don't even understand how to play them.  I just get bored watching]

Anyhow,  back to the Utah Jazz.

I love going to Jazz Games.

I'm sporting my throwback #34 Miles jersey and the bro is sporting #8 Williams

My favorite players are:

Andrei Kirilenko! "AK 47"

CJ Miles (love him.)

Al Jefferson "Big Al"

Deron Williams "D-Will"

Gordon Hayward "Elder Hayward"  (doesn't he look like a missionary?)

Paul Millsap

Raja Bell

Ronnie Price (UVU power!)

Now I know they've been going through a little bit of a rough patch..  Especially with Jerry Sloan resigning so suddenly.  But I believe in them!  I think they can really pull through.  They were doing so well in their pre-games.  They've got some strong players and just need to pull it together.  Seriously, D-Will is like, the best point guard in the league.  Millsap can make some really great shots.  CJ Miles, too.  Heck, even Elder Hayward.  And there's a reason they call Al Jefferson Big Al.  He's huge!  He's really great tall so he can get those rebounds no problem!
and just watch this play.  Doesn't it make you so happy?  It makes me happy.

Come on JAZZ!  You can do it!

sickening sweet

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

you know those couples who are so in love [and show it so much that] it just makes you want to puke?

i swear i will never be one of those couples.
too cheesy for me.

yet.

truth be told

i love cheesiness. seriously.

see example here

*only my lips*

but... for future reference.. If I'm ever so cutesy with my mister {someday} will someone PLEASE remind me of this post and how it annoys me so?

PS don't get me wrong.  I love love.  I love chick flicks and get giddy watching Pride and Prejudice.

but.. you know what I'm talking about, right?

okay.

playlist.com

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

next to pandora, it is a brilliant idea and so great when what I want to listen to isn't on my ipod.  if you haven't discovered either, you should try them out.

*the difference: pandora plays music similar to what you put in the search engine(it's internet radio..it's also how I've discovered some new bands/favorite songs).  playlist lets you add specific songs.  capish?

so what's on my playlist right now?

Telephone - Glee Cast Version

Rich Girl -  Hall & Oates

Five Years Time - Noah and the Whale

One Fine Day - The Chiffons

You Rock My World - Michael Jackson

I am one happy camper listening to this stuff.

what's on your playlist these days?

darn it...

Saturday, February 5, 2011

Honey, he's not worth your tears.

**note** this post was not made in reaction to recent events pertaining to the Mormon Bachelor. :) click on the link. So sad but too funny!!

Ps if you're wondering, I do not get a second date with Rick. I was only a few likes away! Ha. But not to worry-- I'm not sad and haven't even thought to shed a tear. Mr. Buck is a neat kid and I wish him all the best!! I hope he finds what he's looking for!

pet peeves

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

i know i've made a list of things that annoy me to no end before.

in fact, i have.  see this post

but today i'm feeling very annoyed and need to vent about it.

1. loud eaters. i hate when i can hear someone chewing next to me.  not crunching.  crunching doesn't bother me that bad.. it's the slushing chewing mushing swishing sounds i'm talking about.  not only is it disgusting, it's rude to be so loud.

2. rude drivers.  i hate when i am behind someone, and they are going 5+ mph slower than the speed limit.  naturally i go to pass them, and then they speed up.  that drives me crazy.  especially when the road merges soon and i have to get back behind them because they've decided to speed up suddenly.

okay i feel a lot better having that off my chest.

is it just me?

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

am i the only one who doesn't know how to unfollow a blog?

i want to clean up my follow list and don't know how to cut it down if i want to!

does anyone know how?

help? please.
i'm taking two classes this semester {i know, only 6 credits, nbd}

illustration 2
and
drawing 3

when i signed up for the classes

a. they were the only classes to go towards my major that i COULD take (i didn't decide that i wanted to go back and do fine art until everyone else had taken all the other classes i needed)
b. i had expectations about these classes, naturally. thought that illustration would be a breeze (i was considering this to be my major, after all) and that drawing would be really hard (the 3 after the word drawing really scared me)
c. i was nervous that i was taking upper-class courses because i hadn't taken any art classes in 3 years!

but now that i'm a few weeks into the semester here's the scoop:

i am not an illustrator.  apparently illustrators are all about the ideas behind their paintings than the actual renderings.  i can come up with a good idea, but not a great idea.  nothing that wows my professor, anyway.  i'm racking my brain right now and it's been a real challenge thus far.

i am finding that i am really expressive in my artwork.  the assignment we're working on right now is called 'chaos to cosmos'.  we aren't allowed to think at all during the assignment.  not about composition, color, nothing.  we are just supposed to feel what is supposed to go where it needs to and not think about it.  i was really scared for this assignment, but excited to try something i wasn't used to at all.  but my professor is brilliant.  he sees the potential in everyone.  he knows his stuff and knows what he needs to push us to do (individually) to help us improve.
