I haven't vanished from the face of the earth.

I seriously have been so stressed this last month with school and projects it's not even funny. I think I cried myself to sleep a lot this last bit.

No, it's not fun at times

No, I'm not this ornery all the time

No, I don't like my job sometimes(sometimes I really love it)

No, I don't want ice cream or cake--it doesn't make me feel better, it just makes me feel fat

No, I'm not done complaining

okay but I really am now.

Now let's try to find the upside of things

Yes, I love my major

Yes, I can kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel

Yes, the stress for the most part is gone for now

Yes, a bubble bath would help.

thank you for listening while I vent.

When I was three I was in love with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins and all the Disney gals with their lovely and fancy gowns. I was always inspired by them to dress up in my slips and twirl around listening to Whitney Houston and Michael Bolton. As I got older I would ask my mother to draw their dresses (not THEM, their DRESSES) as often as she could.

Finally, she got so tired of drawing them for me that she told me to try drawing them myself.

I started drawing Belle's dress, Ariel's human dress, Snow White's, random peasants, evil queens, anything that had a skirt or any fancy detail, I was attempting to draw it. I was so in love with gowns.

I loved designing gowns and decided I wanted to pursue it.

I got quite a bit older and still would doodle my own designs as well as the same Disney princess gowns I have always loved.

I loved designing gowns and decided I wanted to pursue it.

When high school rolled around, I was blessed with the opportunity to be a participant on my high school's Ballroom Dance Team. I was welcomed to a whole new world of dresses. Dresses for the foxtrot, waltz, cha cha, samba... Later on in my ballroom team career I had the opportunity to design some dresses for our Latin and Standard Medleys.

note: my designs not pictured

I loved designing gowns and, again, decided I wanted to pursue it.

Then College hit.
I lost my ambition to pursue my dream of becoming a gown designer. It didn't seem possible to me. Moving away seemed hopeless, so I unsuccessfully tried to find something else that suited me, I tried everything from illustration to fine art, to art history and even elementary school teaching. Nothing clicked.

3 General Conferences ago (April 2008) was the weekend I decided to just shoot for my dreams of pursuing a degree in Fashion Design. After I made the decision everything fell into place. I learned about a fashion program up in Salt Lake which was much more affordable and had the same curriculum as FIT, a fashion school I had dreamed of being a part of in New york city.

I then had the opportunity to visit NYC as part of a church history tour and fell in love with it.

Now, nearly done with my associates in Fashion another opportunity has opened to me.

I have been thinking and praying about moving away to New York City for more than I can remember. This week, I was looking at FIT's website looking at possibilities. I discovered that they offer a Bachelors Degree program in Special Occasion and Bridal Fashion. Perfect.

I'm now shooting for that dream and in a little more than a year will be moving to New York City pursuing my dream and shooting for the moon. I can only hope for the best and work really hard to achieve my goals. Heck, what have I got to lose? Even if it doesn't work out after NYC I'll have so many new life experiences that will help me grow and everything will work out for the best. Everything happens for a reason!

You know when you're distracted doing something.. (in this case it was browsing realsimple.com--love it!)
Well, when I 'came to' I had the tv on, and the channel it was on was some weird program about avelanches, and the host of the show had this crazy thick irish accent! And now I'm completely intrigued by it...
the way he says "glacier"---glay-cee-err (roll the R at the end)
I'm going to have to shut off the computer and then force myself to shut off the tv and go to bed.
This irish accent is trapping me in... I'm not even interested in watching anything about glay-cee-errs or avelanches or anything of the sort.
Sheesh..
Stupid attractive accents..
Oh. and the host isn't even cute, either!
If it was Oliver Wood, that'd be a different story!!....

Love your Body Part I

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Back in the day, I was a chubster. I was the girl who wore sweats and super baggy clothing to school because I figured if people wanted to be my friend they would see what was on the inside rather than how I dressed/looked on the outside. I never thought I was ugly or fat though until people who I thought were my friends (which they said something because they cared, I suppose) started making comments to me/about me.

I then joined weight watchers (love it) and got braces (glad I did it, still hated them). In 7 months I went from the 5'4'' size 14 girl to the self confident size 4 girl. With a killer straight-toothed grin, might I add.

Now, 4 years later, I've gained 1 or 3 dress sizes.. I still [i think anyway] have that same self confidence and feel great about myself until people make rude comments about my "unhealthy ways" persay.

It got me thinking.. If these girls' comments upset me so much, I must not like the way I look. I read this article on weightwatchers.com. I'm thinking I'm lacking in the self confidence department. The intro says:

"Do you think your life would be so much better if you dropped one dress size, had slimmer hips or looked like Heidi Klum? Then your body image needs a boost."

I answered yes to all those questions, subconciously. No good. So. TODAY I'm starting a Love your Body campaign for myself.

I want to feel good no matter what other people might throw at me. Not necessarily lose weight, just feel confident.

I'm going to get there by:

Making wiser food choices
Positive Thinking
Daily Exercise
Smiling more often

I'll let you know in a few weeks how my progress is coming along.

never forget

I just found out today that an old friend took his life last night. I was really shaken up over the news and could not stop crying. After silent prayers and talking it out with friends and family, someone mentioned to me that he just forgot he was a Child of God.

I can not stop thinking about that.

It's such a simple phrase but it is so important to remember. With that knowledge that you are a child of Heavenly Father you can't go wrong. Heavenly Father has a plan for each of His children. He knows your self worth and your divine potential. Never forget that you are a child of God.

I know that my friend would not have taken his life had he remembered that God loves him and had a divine plan for him on this earth. I know that life does not end here on earth and that I will see my friend again. I know that my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know who I am and that they love me and have a plan for me.

Back To School

A gal I work with was asking all about college and what it was like. I love remembering how I felt on my first day of college and other stories and experiences I had.

Here is one [embarassing moment]story I forgot about:

On tuesdays I had the same 3 classes.

Illustration 9-10 am

Watermedia II 10-11am

Health 11-1pm

I never got out of these classes early and always had just enough time to get from one class to the next to be on time.

One tuesday the Watermedia professor was gone; must have cancelled class and just forgot to put a note on the door or in the class. So, a few of us waited about twenty minutes before leaving.

I walked to my health class, just as normal, but when I arrived at my class the door was already closed..

that's weird... they never close the door for another fifteen minutes or so?...

so I just walked in as usual found a seat, got out my book, and note book.

AND THEN

I remembered that I wasn't late at all. In fact, I was just extremely early to my class and was now sitting in on the lecture for the class before me.

i was wondering about all those weird looks I was getting

So instead of getting up and walking out

I just took notes and pretended like I was supposed to be there.

It was so. awkward.
