Suzie Q and I were instant friends since I moved across the street from her in the 2nd grade. We were joined at the hip for years and years. We don't see each other as often as we should, but I love her dearly and I am so excited for her new chapter as Mrs Combs. In all the years I've known her I haven't seen her as happy as she is when she's with her now hubby. It's very sweet. I had the honor of doing the flowers or her wedding. View pictures{here}.

and i am now officially the last of my friends growing up to get married.  holla!
best moment of the night?

"and now the exchange of the rings"

maid of honor, "uhhhh....i left the ring in the dressing room?...."

(note her embarrassed face...)

the entire crowd bursts into laughter
while the father of the bride ran to find it

too funny!

congratulations suzie and jake! love you guys.

dream wedding dress

Saturday, June 25, 2011

okay people.

since weddings are constantly on my mind as of late (remember how i do flowers and have a zillion friends getting married this summer? yeah, me too.)

i  know what i want--wedding dress wise.

how about what i do not want first:

do NOT want:

down comforter dress:

aka bustle overkill.

something too trendy:

too much bling

i just. want something classic. elegant. simple. beautiful.

something a little like this:

{only with sleeves, natch}
these might even have too much lace.  but i love the simplicity of the designs!
and the silhouettes!
and the intricate detal in such small amounts. love.

wedding season is upon us

Friday, June 17, 2011

i have 8 wedding announcements up on my fridge.

8!!!

and that's not even all of them..

I can honestly say I am an experienced bride.  (i worked as a planner/executioner/advice giver you name it i did it.)

so i've got lots of practice.

when i think about my future wedding it looks something like this:

aka lots of light, and lots of pretty flowers.

 and not very many people.

don't get me wrong i love people!

but

I do not want a reception.  I do not want a billion people there who i don't even know greeting me in a line

My dream wedding consists of:

me.  my husband to be.
our families.
our close friends.
a beautiful temple.
lots of lovely flowers
and a photographer.. to take pictures of my pretty dress, handsome hubby and lovely flowers, natch.

what are your thoughts on the matter?

this is how i spent the last few days!
at the idaho falls lds temple.
i also did the flowers for the beautiful couple who were married 6/3!

and don't let the pictures fool you.
yes, the temple was beautiful.
the gardens were gorgeous.

but i would never. never. live in idaho. ever.

and even more artowrk.

again. i apologize for the blurry factor that are these pictures.
 i need a real camera.

my dear friend commissioned me to illustrate her, her sister's and mother's wedding dresses for mother's day.
i loved how they turned out and had to share!  also, sorry for all the artwork-sharing lately.  this has been the story of my life the last 5 months, however.  i will have normal stories to share later on. promise!

The Royal Wedding: Kate's Dress.

Friday, April 29, 2011

Yes, I stayed up until 3am (okay, I took a small nap) to watch this..

I mean, come on.  It's the wedding of the CENTURY

How many of you were crazy and got up to watch this like my sister and I did?

Stunning.  I think she nailed it.  I'm not going to lie, I was really worried about what her dress would look like, but she exceeded my expectation.
Oh my, I just love this lady.  She is breathtaking!
Look at that lace detail.  Did you know she had this lace custom made?  Nobody has ever worn lace that looks like this.  I am in love with this lace detail.  The neckline, the sleeves.  I can't wait to see what designers are coming up with at this very moment to copy this history-making dress.
The happy couple: The kiss!   So cute.  I seriously love weddings.  Almost as much as I love Kate Middleton's dress.

you better believe I will be updating you on this dress and the impact it's made.  I want to make an illustration of this dress.  I adore every bit of it.  The silhouette, neckline, sleeves, lace detail, and especially the simplicity of it all. <3

.i'll admit.

You've heard the term

senioritis
or
baby hungry

right?

Well.  I'm not either of those.
I've already graduated from high school, and I'm not even close to having kids, so why even bother thinking about that right now. Right? Well,

I'm engagement ring hungry.

Just the ring. I don't want to date anyone or even be married right now for that matter.
{too many big plans and too busy.  and too poor.}

How did I come to the conclusion of wanting needing an engagement ring?

I downloaded the Tiffany & Co Ring Finder app on my ipod the other day (bad idea)

and now other than Angry Birds

it's the only thing I look at!

This is my dream ring from Tiffany & Co.

Don't worry, it only costs $12,100

And when I was in New York last year I tried on this beauty.  Priced around $10,000

Not going to lie, my heart raced a little bit putting on a Tiffany's engagement ring.  Not to mention one that is so pricey!

I loved it.

wedding belles!

(finally.. sorry about the long wait, girls!)

I had a huge response from this post.  I was blown away. . Thanks so much everyone who sent me your bridal pictures. Unfortunately I said I would only do 3.  And then I'm a sucker so I decided to do 4.

Here's the final product.  I apologize, I don't know how to use my scanner, so I had to settle for phone pictures... I will be sending these pictures soon girls, don't worry. And also, they look better in person!

"I loved my wedding dress, when I was in high school I had a dream about getting married and I was wearing this dress. So when I got engaged and I found it in the store, I had to have it. My favorite part of my dress would have to be the train. It was long with these white ribbons… oh I loved that dress so much!" -Mrs. Willes

"We looked for 4 hours [for my dress] and the very last dress I put on I couldn't help but light up. I absolutely loved it. I love the neck line, the beading, and the buttons!" -Mrs. Robison

Mrs. Elder's dress was very unique.  I loved its antique look and all the lace.  Very lovely. And it suited her perfectly.  She looked gorgeous in it!  I fell in love with the back, which is why I chose to draw it! Naturally!

"I loved how simple my dress was but with a little rouching of the fabric, a black belt, with a diamond brooch on it I felt elegant." - Mrs. Chadwick

Ladies, thanks so much for letting me draw you in your dream dresses!  I loved it.   Hopefully I will be getting an etsy shop started soon so I can do this legit.  Thanks for letting me build my portfolio! :)

Wedding Bouquet 101

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Many of you might know that I work at a cute little wedding shop doing the floral orders.

Yesterday alone, we put together

38 centerpieces
approximately 40 boutonniers/ corsages
bridesmaids bouquets

and Bridal Bouquets.

Okay people.

Some Brides are very particular and are looking for a specific look.

That's fine, I used to be ultra picky too... Until I became the one doing the bouquets.  Please just stop caring and let me do my job!

Certain flowers cooperate with me. They are:

Roses

Spray Roses

Dahlias

Lisianthus

Stock

Orchids

Mini Calla Lilies

Freesia

See?  SO many to choose from that are nice flowers.

You will not believe how many brides love the

Asiatic Lily
Hate.

Hate.

Hate is a strong word.

REALLY dislike.

Here are reasons why you should not choose this in your bridal bouquet.

  • They are HUGE and take over the whole bouquet.
  • The pollen stains EVERYTHING... Including your white wedding dress. (okay that's not a huge deal.. we take out the pollen. But Still. MY hands are stained, not your white dress. You're Welcome.)
  • They are very hard to create a bouquet with, the stems do not cooperate. You have to work around THEM and I do not like that plan.

So don't choose them.

Tell your engaged friends.

Bridal Gown Guide: Silhouettes

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Okay. I seriously could have this post go on fooorrevverrr. BUT I narrowed it down to only silhouettes. If you have questions about what will look good on your body type, which colors will work best on your skin tone, sleeves, where to look, price ranges (on ANY clothing, not just wedding gowns) Just email me or post a comment on here and I would be more than happy to answer your fashiony questions! :)
Silhouettes
I don't know that you can see the numbers for the above Silhouettes.. Anyway, You'll see these silhouettes everywhere. I've included pictures of what everything looks like, also, and what's considered trendy as of now in the bridal fashion world!

1. Sheath

Characteristics: Comes straight down from waistline
Ruffles/Layers are very popular now. This dress is a little dramatic; you'll usually see this done in moderation. I tried to find exaggerated versions of the dresses :)
Simplicity.

Short dresses. Very in. Not traditional at all... But still done! Hm!

2. Sheath-Empire Waistline
Characteristics: Same as Sheath, but with a waistline that comes just under the bust or at the natural waistline.

I LOVE this dress. I love how drapey it is. I love the flower detailing(very in right now). And this dress would be ultra flattering on just about anyone. So pretty!

3. Ball Gown
Characteristics: Very full skirt. This is the most traditional silhouette for a wedding gown.

4. A Line

Flowered details, and different ways to add interest are very chic. Whether it be a different fabric, textile, different color somewhere; you'll see the extra oomph of interest in a lot of gowns lately.

Like I said. Simplistic dresses are so chic and very classic. I love that this vintage-classic look is coming back.

5. Mermaid

Sorry I couldn't really find a picture that I loved to post. And this site wouldn't let me save this picture to my computer :)
all other pictures are from J-Crew's Spring 2010 line found on Martha Stewart Weddings {dot} com.
